Hello , I congratulate you for finding yourself here and for wanting to take charge and empower your health and wellness choices!

Essential Oils have been around for years yet so many of us don’t realise the power that a pure, quality oil like Doterra can have on your emotions and mood and how we can change our thoughts, emotions and negative patterns that we love to hold onto so dearly like a comfort blanket.

So let’s get into some science and then how this can help us manage our long term and short term health goals when it comes to Essential Oils.

Essential oils are made up of carbon and a complex network of chemical constituents that can have an influence over the chemistry in our bodies because we are also essentially made up of carbon and chemical constituents that are interacting every second of every day in every system of your body.

Neat eh?

What’s even neater is how quickly essential oils can change our emotional state. Let’s dive into some science and then the best essential oils to use depending on your mood!

One drop of essential oil in the hand is a potent chemical you might never know you had sitting around . By inhaling the molecules from that essential oil they travel up the nose via the olfactory system/ nerve and into our limbic system.

The limbic system is the part of the brain where our emotions and memories are stored. Inhaling the aroma can bring about an almost immediate response and rush of feelings (both good and bad depending on the memory attached to a scent ) - this can also be classed as an emotional response.

The limbic system also plays a part in our behavioural response and attention , this is useful when using essential oils in areas such as anxiety , depression and energy. By inhaling certain essential oils we can support areas such as feeling tired and overwhelmed, anxiety by lowering blood pressure and heart rate and supporting that ‘fight or flight ‘response and many other ‘emotional responses; which can cause physiological changes.

Is it that simple?? Yes!! Let me give you some working examples of how inhaling essential oils can support your everyday life based on my own experiences and those shared by friends and clients :

Anxiety

inhaling scents can help to calm your response to situations and in some cases lessen the effects of panic attacks. Citrus oils are particularly good in this area

Depression

Certain essential oils can be used to support energy levels, mood enhancement and ‘shift’ emotional states to move long held beliefs and energies by allowing the individual to ‘move the emotions on’ supporting emotional freedom. Woody grounding oils and citrus oils can be useful in this area

Lethargy

Menthol oils are great for ‘pepping’ you up when you are tired and lacking in energy

Menopause

Many oils can be supportive in this area but menthol oils for energy , some of the floral oils to support mood and some herby oils to support brain fog

Grief

Oils can be inhaled at times of deep sadness and grief to support the individual in coping during these times

The ‘Emotional Wheel’ is a superb resource that you can access to decide which oils may be best to support you.

Remember everyones chemistry is different and our bodies and hormones are fluctuating daily so don't lose heart if one oil doesn’t give you the desired result it may just be that you need to select a different one.

I offer emotional aromatherapy support either in person or online. Working with the emotional blends from Doterra we formulate a plan to support your current health needs. More information on the blends can be found by downloading the emotional aromatherapy guide below.
